City by the Sea Veterinary Hospital
Serving as an expansion for an existing practice just down the street, the client purchased an existing abandoned Art-Deco style industrial building that was in need of intensive structural and cosmetic repair. Extra care was taken to preserve the aesthetics of the existing facade and to address acoustical concerns exacerbated by the building's location on a mostly residential block, with a commuter train line directly across the street. The owner’s vision to have an open practice where clients can keep an eye on their pets even while they are being treated in the clinical treatment space was accomplished with glass windows on the back of all exam room walls. This was also applied to the exam room doors to allow for direct sight through the main treatment room, all the way back to the surgical and dental suites.
